SHATTERING CEILINGS

Sabrina is now one of the women in making history in the Extreme Excellence World Record!

Growing up poor in rural Louisiana, I was often bullied in school. After being so overwhelmed that I went home crying, I begged my mother to send me away. But where could she send me?

The bullying was so bad and mentally taxing that I went from making good grades to failing. Ultimately, my sister Lori, may she rest in peace, talked to me about getting my GED. I spoke to my mother, who agreed to allow me to transition.

After only a few months and at 16, I had completed the GED program and exceeded the state scores in every subject.

When I heard of the Extreme Excellence World Record for "The most photos of Black Women With A Graduation Certificate Uploaded to Social Media in 24 Hours" on September 8-9, the birthday of Human Rights Activist Ruby Bridges, I knew I had to participate.

This historic milestone, led by Jen Franks Ahaghotu, supporting the Ruby Bridges Foundation, celebrates educated black women and their excellence.

I am participating by sharing my photo of the first degree I earned because this was a glass ceiling for me. I had to break through those childhood memories to become my most excellent self.

Thanks, Jen, for the opportunity. Now, let's make history!
